You can host your website anywhere and still keep your domain and email with Hostilo. It is two DNS records.
The quick way
Open your dashboard, go to Domains, pick the domain, and choose a preset under "Where should this domain point?". We have one-click setups for Hostilo hosting, Shopify, Wix and Google Workspace. Pick one, check the records look right, and press Save.
Doing it by hand
You need two records, and you must leave the MX record alone or your email will stop working.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ | the IP address your new host gave you |
| CNAME | www | the hostname your new host gave you, ending in a dot |
| MX | @ | leave this exactly as it is |
Common values:
- Shopify — A record
23.227.38.65, CNAMEshops.myshopify.com. - Wix — A record
23.236.62.147, CNAMEwww.wixdns.net. - Hostilo — A record
197.242.0.10, CNAME your own domain with a trailing dot
How long it takes
Usually 5 to 60 minutes. The first change on a domain can take a few hours because other networks cache the old answer. Nothing you can do speeds that up, and it resolves on its own.
If it does not work
- Check the CNAME value ends with a dot.
shops.myshopify.com.is right,shops.myshopify.comis not. - You cannot put a CNAME on the root (
@). Use an A record there. - Clear your browser cache, or check on your phone on mobile data, before assuming it has failed.
Ask Hostiy to check it for you and it will tell you what the records currently resolve to.
